This was a pretty well done movie.. Al Pacino leads a Great cast.. Jack Kevorkian certainly is an interesting character. I though Pacino was the perfect choice for the role.. This is well worth watching.. 4/5..
very informative movie great cast answered alot of questions in the way that he did things.. wish i wouldve watched it sooner..5/5 WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT
How sad is it that we live in a society that allows us to show mercy for our pets but no mercy for a suffering human. I would hope that if I ever had a painful incurable illness someone would have mercy for me. I would also hope that I would be able to take part in that decision.
i have read somewhere that mr. kevorkian has said he was glad pacino played the part, that probably no one else could have done it right. i take that to mean that pacino portrayed him with all the passion he himself has for this subject. i myself take care of the elderly population and sometimes someone from a younger generation also. the physical pain alone is just one aspect of the ailments these people suffer. it's an extremely difficult thing to try everything you can think of to try to help one of those people have just a small amount of relief. it's a heartbreaking thing to know you can do nothing for that person. i don't see how anyone who's EVER been around someone in the last part of their life and in total misery, not only from pain, but also from their loss of independence, etc., etc. can see the suffering these people go through and sit on their "god/bible/sin" horse and tell ANYONE their immeasurable suffering is something they MUST go through. i think kevorkian is a revolutionary and if those people he HELPED could come back they would wish upon all you people damning him twice the pain they themselves suffered. wonderful movie, wonderful performance from pacino, and i'm very surprised it was an hbo release, not a theater release.
side note: i do have a living will that says if i'm in a vegetative state, do not pull the plugs because i believe there's a reason for us all to be here, BUT that is MY choice on MY life, EVERYONE deserves the right to make their own choice.
A great movie well done all aroung. Maybe it is because I am of German decent and we allow it, but I'm gonna have to agree with Dr. Death on this one. We should have the right to end our lives under these type circumstances. Granted every case is unique, and that is where of sound mind and body comes in, and it is difficult to determine sometimes. But if someone wishes to do something like this, they should be allowed to do so, even with assistance if needed as long as it is done properly and as pain free as possible.
Very Good Movie, it gives you the side of Jack that others so desperatly needed to see of him during his trials. He is ahead of his time, as most others who start movements that become a way of life. Like he said, at first surgeries were deemed as playing God, heart transplants were fought, blood transfusions etc.. then we wake up to the realities. When people fight saying it is only up to God the timing of a person's death, I often wonder if they have ever used a doctor before, if they have, are they not meddling in God's affairs? If they get cancer and opt for life saving medical treatments, is that not meddling in God's timing? Death should be as much our choice as opting health treatments to stay alive, I would never want Lou Gerrick disease and have my body waste to nothing while my mind stayed as active and feeling as it was before it raviged my body.
Anyway, this movie tells him side, in a way we can relate to him better. Excellent movie, 4+/5
Each person has a set time to die, and when that time is reached one can neither advance it nor delay it. So by using a doctor or opting for life saving medical treatment it would not meddle with God's affairs nor timing as if it is decreed for you to die it would not make a difference what you do.
Saw this on HBO just a few weeks back. In my opinion, it's purely amazing.
I like the title too b/c you really don't know jack until you're in that situation, of the sufferer.
I hope euthanasia gets completely legalize across the US b/c you'll never know what the future brings. I wouldn't want someone to constantly have to take care of me, I having to resist the pain, having to wait to die naturally. And I'm most certainly not going to suffer to please an invisible man up in the sky.
VERY VERY good movie! Interesting and entertaining all the way thru!! Definatly worth the watch!! Those would be some hard choices to have to make, but I can understand why people in that much pain would want to end it. 4.5/5!
I am not even going to bother trying to say how I feel or what I think about the moral of this movie. I will say that it is a very very good film and very very touching. I cried some and it made me think on this issue a lot. It is absolutely worth watching.
I just keep thinking about lying on a hospital bed in agony..and some doctor looking at my chart and giving me sympathetic platitudes.. but doing nothing..unless i ask for treatment to stop then i face both the agony from the illness and starving and dying from thirst.
Surely god cant mean for people to go through that
The truth is everyday doctors perform euthanasia when they give a patient in pain control of their morphine dose. This dirty little secret is swept under the rug. Leave it to my home state of Michigan to make it a forum for hypocrisy. Good job Al Pacino, and Dr. K.
I thought it was wonderful to see the true ethics of Dr. Kevorkian, it's about time we as a society give the credit to Dr. Kevorkian that he is due.
I grew up in San Francisco and remember very well the time when a person diagnosed with HIV had nothing but a horrible, painful death to look forward to, and I would hear that so and so sat with a person as they took their overdose of sleeping pills. It was pretty well known that this happened. We also have the Golden Gate bridge and the jumpers, many of whom are facing a long painful illness and death.
So many good points were made, especially of the inhumanity of taking a person off their feeding tubes and letting them starve to death. It is illegal to do that to a dog, but humans it's okay.
A great film, I watched it many times. Maybe the most important film I've ever seen.
I learned things about Dr. K. that I obviously nv knew. I thought him to be an evil man with malicious intent. I had no clue of his passion for the rights of man kind. This is a great movie with wonderful acting. Al Pacino.. wow. I didnt even know it was him till i read the credits. It may b a tad bit slow but if u appreciate raw talent, a well written script tht stays true to history, and appreciate being educated on justice, the legal system n a determined and passionate freedom fighter (if u will), then definitely Do Not Pass This Film Up!
Finally Al.. So many bad films for so many years. A small taste of the good old days. Shame on the big producers for making this an HBO film and not putting it on the big screen.
Al Pacino sure hit it off in this one, never ever been disappointed with his proformances. I don't think they could of gotten a better person to play Jack.
If this movie doesn't win an award there is something truly wrong in this world.
10/10
A brilliant movie made in the honour of a brilliant man. Bless you Dr Korvorkian!
2much.. My ex's uncle died from pancreatic cancer.. his last few months were agony that goes beyond the ability of huge doses of the strongest morphine to alleviate..but it did disorientate him to the point between it and the pain he did not know what was going on around him because he was trapped in this body of drugs and hell born pain.
he was a big guy over 6'3 but weighed just six stones at the end
his daughters and wife watched him suffer this for months..imagine that
Dr K advocates the right to chose..and he put himself on the line for it..
went to jail for his belief that people SHOULD NOT HAVE TO UNNECESSARILY SUFFER
you think people have the right to say sorry but you have to suffer because we think its morally right for you to do so?
yes 2much, we call him brilliant because we are not compassion-less assholes who enjoy watching suffering just so we can pretend to use the suffering of others placate a cruel and merciless god.
If you want to suffer and die in agony to make yourself a burnt offering to your god, you have that right. Why can't you religious fanatics mind your own business? What is wrong with you?
Yes 2much2handle I do.
I daily watch my mother suffer and detoriate in front of our eyes, she has become a spectical of every person she comes in contact with. Every second she suffers, emotional and physical pain. If she had the strength to do it herself she would.
It's our lives, why cant we choose when to leave and how to leave? To suffer for years and years is horrible, and for a doctor to keep you alive while you suffer is more inhumane.
Like he said, in the end they pull out your feeding tubes and starve you to death. How is that humane?
Seriously, i see no ethics or morals here. If a person is a vegetable, then why spend tax $$ to let him live when he will never be what he will be. If a person has in T4 of Cancer, why let him suffer. If someone is incurable and is suffering, why has this got to be a debate if he wants to die. Those who advocate for pro life on this don't know what suffering is even with controlled medication.
To me Kvorkian is just one guy who came into the limelight. There are so many ways to kill a paitient without anybody even getting wiser if it was assisted or not. Lots of doctors do it around the world and they have managed to keep their annonymity. So no issue here, just life and some common sense. If it is free will and choice, quit making it sound as the end of the world. You choose what to eat, you choose who to marry and you choose when to have kids and with who.Why can't you choose when you want to die?
It's a sin to take your own life. That's the fastest way to go to hell. It's what I learned and it's in the Bible. Brilliant or not it's not right. I can understand that there's people out there that don't want to live a life of pain and suffering but it's still wrong to take your life.
2much don't knock other peoples opinions while trying to bestow your own beleifs towards others.State your opinion about the film and move on.It's my beleif that your life is yours and no book about morales(the bible) is gonna scare me into thinking otherwise.Every religon seems to have same common ground and that is rules written on paper.
2much. put yourself in the shoes of someone this man helped. nothing works for the pain its all you can do to stomach going to sleep to wake up to more pain. you wouldnt want more pain medication. you wouldnt want someone to wait on you hand and foot. you would want it to be over. and thats what he did. This Doctor helped the sick the way they wanted. Not how you or anyother person in this world wanted. They wanted it. We have the right to choose the way we want to live, why can we not choose our own end??
this movie is fantastic. it probes every aspect of the doctors intentions, and they were not to kill. they were not to murder, but to help those who suffer be released from the constraints of the human body. to not suffer.
Al Pachino is a fantastic actor, and this role couldnt have been played by a more experienced actor than he.
I think everyone should have a living will to let their loved ones know IF..this were to happen to them, what should their family do..as for the acting..Awesome as always..i love that man!!
