When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorschach begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying conclusion.
Definitely an hero flick of a dark variety. It's much more psychological than action, with blood, gore and the blurring of the subtle borders that are dark and light, good and evil, sanity and insanity. None of the heros come off as wholly altruistic. Many of them might be no better than villains, each struggling with what it means to be a hero, dealing with the darkness that comes with it. And to conclude the film with the two greatest minds thinking of humanity as they do really resonates strongly about human nature on a whole.
Just watched for the 2nd time..although it's a bit long, it's really a great movie~~not the "Normal" Superhero movies so it's really refreshing!! I'm buying this for my DVD collection as it's that good!! 4/5*
don't miss this. it's over a lot of peoples' heads, but it is well worth the watch. it is a deep and fascinating story, and the comic book even got listed in a british best of all time lists for novels (though it was unconventional for something in the graphic novel genre to get it). and i'm NOT a fanboy. i never read the graphic novel, but the story is a fascinating critique of world history. a revisionist approach to superheroes parallels a revisionist critique of the structures of power and american empire itself.
weird movie. Tedious and boring. And sad too.. I only know guys who like it, and I usually like a lot of typical "guy" movies, but this is just over the top. If at least there had been some more humour/warmth in some way.. this movie is just bordering the depressing

different and surprising,this is how all superhero movies should sound like,human and yet very dark when light no longer is there.the idea of each of the heroes having there on demons to deal with is what makes this story truly great.each character was introduced with great flair.10 out of 10.
I've never heard of the watchmen comics before? With that I have no idea if they were even close, but from what I seen, not such a bad movie. Slow, but I'm wondering if that's because this is the first to explain who the watchmen are? If so, then I appreciated the depth of the story... it just works wonderfully. At first it's a bit confusing, but it sorts itself out.. I think the graphics were great, though I do not think this movie is for kids at all. Some of the violence is too much for youngsters I would think - and the sex of course. With an open mind, and forgetting about our regular superhero movies we've all seen, then overall I think this is totally worth a watch! I asked my 18 year old what he thought, his answer "meh, be prepared it's long!"
The watchmen? I totally enjoyed this movie although not as much as i enjoyed Sin City. Some of the characters are pretty cool and interesting- the blue (i can do everything) guy-and the mask guy Kicks ass. you also have the token girl in licra catsuit :-)
I was expecting something like X-men, but this was WAY better! 4/5
Definitely one of the best superhero movies of all time. Showed what the world could have been like and even the lengths some people will go to achieve world piece through means of murder.
More for pretty hard core fans of the comics. Not your average superhero flick. Very long and with a lot of background story to it leaves you wondering if there'll be any action at all. I kind of liked it. 3/5.
I was looking forward to watching this movie. Although there is a lot of action i'm bored with it. I'm writing this while it's playing in the background. Maybe you have to be in the right mood or something. I skipped around til i finally got to boring end. -2/10 not my cup of tea
I never read the comics so I was watching this movie without any expectations. What an alternate view on the whole 'Superhero' genre! I thought it was a slight spoof to begin with

the costumes were a bit ridiculous
till I realized the style and direction of Snyder. Great visuals and fight sequences. Good acting and the story kept me hooked and unaware of the length of the movie, near 150 minutes. Brilliant ending!!

My only criticism

is it's similarities with the 'Matrix'. Th fight scenes were obvious enough but the sound effects were pure 'Matrix'. Listen out for the bullet casings when the roof and water tanks are shot to pieces to rescue people from the burning building. Maybe it's the same sound people who worked on the "Matrix' or just a deliberate homage.
I haven't read the Watchmen comics, so I'm only talking about this movie. I liked the idea, it's original and very insightful, but.. I didn't like the movie. The length is ok to me, I LOVE movies based on comics, but chemistry never happened. I was bored, didn't care about single one of them.
And what's an average super hero movie anyway?

I just watched this for the first time, with no previous knowledge of the Watchmen, and was amazed.From the opening scene you know this is not your normal super hero film.Mainly by the violence, there's lots of it and its very graphic..awesome. Don't be put off by the costumes, they do look stupid but soon feel right. I waited for the directors cut to watch this, on blu ray, after being told its good.And i was rewarded with 3hrs of brilliant film making.The writing, directing and effects, all were great, faultless.The story was really good, and left me hungry for a sequel.I never heard of the watchmen before this film, now im searching for the source. The characters and the world depicted, are so well done, and so real.Never have super hero's been written this way.Each character is opened up and laid bare for the viewer, and you get so attached.Even the not so nice Comedian (brilliantly acted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) pulls the old heart strings.I cannot comment on how it relates to the anime or graphic novel, but you get the feeling watchmen fans are more than happy.This is the kind of hero story I've always wished for, spiderman and the xmen are always way too politically correct for me.Where as watchmen is definitely not for kids.
My hats off to Snyder, and to Alan Moore, Dave gibbons and John Higgins.Im off to explore a DC comics store, and see what other brilliant stuff they been hiding.
This was a good movie.
It always seems strange to watch super heroes that don't look like saturday morning cartoons, And usually those movies are very poor.
This one however is superb, It brings out the hard core elements, And gives it a new depth.

Loved it for a comic book movie its really good I dont really know the history of watchmen never read the comics or anything actually when it came out was the first time I actually heard of it and its a great story of humanity and all and in some places its so true humans most these days are so ignorant and fear everything they dont understand and the world is filled with unjustice these days lets give life a chance I mean what our world is coming to is disaster.
Ok I saw there were big topics here which comic book movie is better and what not well I think Spidey movies were great 3 sequels did come up showing its succes. But my point is Spidy was good so was Iron Man and Dark Knight and watchmen. But Watchmen lets put it this way wasnt for a mature audienc well every superhero movie above they werent aimed at children neither they all became huge blockbuster succes spawning sequels and will be more sequels and remakes of these series's. The closest to watchmen is Dark Knight of course WB and Legenday and Dc worked together on that too so of course its gonna be no Marvel's Iron Man or Spiderman they're diffrent things and each movie is good in their own way Im a huge collector of movies and lol and some movies i can look at very critically but the debates and stuff what were going here were plain stupid these movies stand alone no relation to the other all I know is Spidey and Iron man made theyre way into cinema big time so even though maybe Watchmen you think its better if Spidey or Iron man were crap they would've just stopped but for those series's its only just the beginning.

(Loads of people say this movie dragged too long well its all on perspective I mean every second counted in this movie as the small details slowly unravled take Harry Potter 6 for instance the same length as this and people said to short not enough information and they were right it did seem rushed it all depends on how much info you put in and how much time you take with it cause if you pull a movie for like 3 hours with no point of pulling it that far no point but this movie had its moments)
