The story is set aboard the Phaeton, Earth's first starship, on a ten-year journey to explore a distant planetary system. In order to help the crew endure the long mission, a system of virtual reality modules is installed aboard the starship. These modules allow the crew to assume various identities and enjoy a variety of adventures, until a flaw is discovered in the system.
I, personally, found this rather dull and intellectually un-stimulating. Though, not one for reality shows in general, this dragged and eventually I just closed it not even mid way.
it was really interesting and I think the story has great potential. it is not easy to live in isolation for so much time and on top of that to know that you are watched by billions of people. I would really like to see the continuation to see how the "what is real" idea would develop-..
I really njoyd this movie, and for all you's batteling with the ending - its right there, many times, as plain as day, in the words of many of the characters.

The whole thing, the ship and the characters and even the mission was as fake as the holographic programme.
It seems most of you missed the point of the whole story! In the tradition of Philip K. D*ck "Battlestar Galactica" director Peter Berg created a pilot (which explains why the ending was such a cliffhanger) that questions how real reality is and just what exactly is real.

Throughout the story the viewer is left questioning whether or not the disaster is real or whether it is a ploy by the reality tv show company to make good tv. The characters themselves must put on a display for camera although they at times would rather not which affects the real relationships of the crew memebers. The modules also start to affect the crew, and their relationships despite that whole world being fantasy! The title really does fit every aspect of this movie.
I find it interesting that so many viewers feel like they have to know what happens in the end. A little like how Halo gamers were upset they never got to see the master chiefs face at the end of the first game. The point of the movie is to go along for the ride and feel the emotion of the characters. You never know what's real in this movie, and I just hope FOX picks up the show. 5/5 btw
This is a great storyline. Too bad this series didn't take off with FOX. It would have been a great story for all the scifi lovers. But that seems to be par for the coarse they shut down Firefly too and I thought that was a good one. It would have been interesting to see where this would have gone.

I bet they are all in stasis waiting to arrive at their destination and they are all in one big virtual world while they are on the way. That is what it seems to me.And when they get to their destination they will come out of it. Maybe that is why it didn't take off. Maybe they thought it would be too predictable. They should have made it a movie that would have had some closure.. some type of ending.

Just incredible kept me fascinated the whole way thru, when is the sequel coming out ? Oh also great acting - very convincing. 10/10
I thought it was very good. A little different type of narrative to reveal characters thoughts gives interesting viewpoints. Have to agree with many other comments; was this a pilot or is there going to be sequels? I would like to see that happen,

10 year trip could leave so many possibility's including the return of the captain in some sort of dimension.
Worth checking out in my opinion, but if you don't like the format of 1st ten minutes, I would suggest you'll agree with people who didn't like it. I gave it 4/5
This movie was so boring, i tried to watch twice and both times, all i remember is waking up with my monitor on standby. -5/5, thats how boring it was.
Hello? This is a pilot to a series! It's intention is to get you interested in future shows and it did. I think that Peter Berg is a wonderful director, not to mention actor (The Last Seduction). The story and the quality of the special effects were great. Looking forward to seeing what happen on the Phaeton!
