The story centers on Veronika, a woman in her mid twenties who appears to have everything: good looks, good job and a great life ahead of her. Yet she decides to end her own life. She is unsuccessful and awakens in a mental hospital where she learns that she a short time to live. However in the hospital she meets people who are only 'insane' because they don't always follow society's rules. With little left to lose, Veronika embarks on a journey on which she frees herself to experience relationships and emotions and ultimately discovers what it means to live
This movie had almost nothing to do with the book! It completely ruined the idea i had made of it. I really love the book, and I was soo desapointed! The caracters and the acting was wrong there was no chemistry during the entire movie, and the director missed out on the whole point of the movie, and just kept the love storyy to turn it boring and cheesy.
I really enjoyed this movie..but, the love story aspect of it kinda kill much of it for me. I understand that was also one of the contributing points of the ending and all..but, c'mon. The story was great, the casting was great, and the ending was spectacular. I just really think they could have done w/o that one aspect of it..just my opinion.
I know! There was NO reason for those two to fall in love. Well - maybe him for her, she could play the piano after all. Her only reason to fall for him was because it's such an awesome feeling and who wouldn't want to feel it one last time before dying?
I can say only one good thing about this movie. The acting was great. The film tried to deliver a message of life realization but the story-telling ability just wasn't there. Not sure who I would blame this on - the director, the producer or the writer. In the end I felt robbed of my time.
[SPOILER]
Veronika, who had been out in the world her whole life, will break his heart when she finds out that she isn't going to die. He is simple - merely because of his institutionalized life. He will bore her and need her. If she wanted to be needed she would have had children or a needy man by now.
Sorry for the rant, this film just left me frustrated. You just rarely see such a flawed and stupid story told by such skilled cast. AARRGGHH
i think i actually prefer the movie to the book, which might be a first for me, generally i like both almost equally or like the book just a little bit more, but in this case, the book is not one of my favorites, i read it quickly and didn't hate it but didn't particularly love it either, but it made me think and for that reason i was glad to have read it, it just wasn't a book where i really connected to the characters (which is what i kinda live for in books). However in the movie, i connected with the characters much more than when i read the book. maybe it was cause i already love Sarah Michelle Geller, i don't know, but i enjoyed the movie more than the book. That being said, the cinematography (like others have said) was brilliant and everyone's acting was right on point. Sarah Michelle Geller was perfect, nothing more is needed to be said, she was amazing, Erika Christiansan (i hope i spelled her named right) was also brilliant. she did not have much screen time, but she truly had her character down and when she was on screen, your eyes went right to her. Johnathan Tucker was fantastic as Edward and the rest of the cast were equally wonderful in their roles as well. this is a story that makes you think about your own life which is good. 8/10
a good Sunday afternoon movie. Don't use Mega Video for watching; 3/4 way through the movie it said to wait one hour before finish watching it. Had to go to another link to finish it. 4 out of 5 stars.
this is a good movie, however, it is very slow paced. Worth watching if you like Sarah Michelle Gellar, I gave it 4 stars
The cinematography was brilliant, and the acting was great for the most part.. but I did feel like something else should have happened to really make this more memorable...
What a beautiful, and inspiring film.. Sarah Michelle Gellar really shines in this movie. Well acted, and extremely well executed.. The cinematography, the soundtrack, the story.. I haven't cried over an ending like that since "Wristcutters.. A Love Story".. A+
LOVED IT. It reflected what the book wanted to portray, the acting was amazing and this is a movie that nourishes the soul. I would not recommend it to airheads or those adrenaline junkies who only enjoy violent movies. This movie is deep, just like the book and just like the author. I didn't find it slow, on the contrary, it builds up to that amazing end.
Yes!! well said indeed xD but im also an adrenaline junkie :) haha. gotta love Paulo's stories :) hope they will make "The Alchemist" into a movie aswell, would be awesome
the title leaves yea with an imagination of the story but this movie was very well put together with out all the bullchit screaming and nonsense that makes a movie just a sudden loud jolt of music and scare tactic for phony excitement, this one kept things calm and very interesting in whats next,a perfect Sunday evening movie that put a little thought in your mind about life and the will to carry on,if yea think your life is all so bad look around and you'll notice folks that are worst off keep going and make the best with what they have, beautiful movie worth the watch 5/5
It was an amazing story. It seemed slow and sketchy at times, but it's one of those movies, that you can leave the theater or turn the dvd off with a smile.
this was truly a good movie to watch, yes a little slow in parts but that just gives you a chance to remember why she wanted to do what she did, i loved the ending , was so happy with that outcome!8/10
It might sound very morbid, but instead it is extremely revealing in so many ways.
I am bipolar and have experienced quite similar circumstances throughout my life since I was 13 and now at 59 . . .
I have come to believe that one should live life only a moment at a time but fully and try your hardest to ignore
all that is negative, ugly and I don't mean looks, I mean hatred.
Make your dreams come true, if you can, u will realize that the smallest ones are the greatest, most meaningful.
Watch this movie and take from it, the last few words spoken by the phsychatrist, as nearest to reality as can be. 10++/10
Forgive me for asking but, when did you first realize or where 1st diagnosed with this condition? and what do YOU feel contributes to it?
I do agree with your comment and what caught my attention was "try your hardest to ignore all that is negative". The reason is that most things can't be ignored they need to be accepted and in some cases tolerated. Ignoring some things can actually not be a healthy thing.
..i think she just needed a movie to be sad in. sarah has that very emotional/dramatic style of acting so i think she needed a movie where should could focus on that part of her style..the story was too simple for me..i guess i jus expected more from this film.
