Excellent tale of honour among crooks spiced with a credible coincidence and an unusual twist. Those who expect plenty of kung fu in their Chinese flicks may be disappointed, but bullets are so much more efficient and reliable, and the shoot-outs are skilfully choreographed with enough gore to satisfy normal tastes. The scenes in Macau (odd that there were no signs in Portuguese) and Hong Kong were exotic and impressive. Johnny Hallyday, former French pop singer (with not a drop of British or American blood in his veins despite the name) and erstwhile paramour of the divine B.B., was convincing as an ageing toughie with a grim and difficult mission to accomplish.

There seems, incredibly to be a kind of happy ending with him settling down in a Chinese family with numerous children, surrogates for his own slaughtered grandchildren. I hope he still remembered how to use his credit card!
However, I doubt if either the post-colonial police force of Macau or Hong Kong were very pleased with the way their screen images seemed to be totally deaf to all that gunfire, worthy of a WW II battle, though admittedly, lying low was a very good idea. (9½/10)
