Well, that´s a trully sad story, lived in one of the most beautifull countrys in the world, but sadly one of the most violent either.. It´s painfull to watch either for two reasons, one of all the profund desrispect for the human life lived there, and the atatched violence and brutallity, and other the Portuguese, that is extremelly rude and almost barbarian giving even more violence to the movie..if the main character was winning money for the "son of a B" word.. well he would be millionair you know what i mean..
This movie shows the real Brasil, with all his social problems, not some Globo romantic serie that shows nothing but lies..
This film is a piece of art and hope you enjoy it.
This movie must be watched. And if possible you need to see the documentary it's based on called Bus 174. The situation of Street Children in Brazil is daunting. You want to place blame, but it's hard to do, because this is the manifestation of absolute poverty. The people, the parents, everybody is being acted on by policies domestic and international that make life in this country nearly impossible. 80% of the country live in absolute poverty, and only 20% hold all of the wealth People live in areas called "Favelas" which are shanty-towns, interlaced with landfills. in these communities there is no postal service, because many of the streets don't even have names. Life there is dismal. And I'm not making excuses, but its not that the people don't care about the kids, its just that in situations were life is extreme and everyday you are faced with self-preservation, a child becomes more of an expense, and a problem than a blessing. The people simply cannot take care of themselves, and therefore the kids are looked at as crumb-snatchers. its important to remember that we as Americans didn't always regard children as favorably as we do now. In fact, up until the mid 20th century American children we regarded very similarly to those in Brazil. They had value if they were able to work and contribute to the family. Not until postindustrialization, did the role of children change in this country. And the reason for that is money and industry. When money is present and flowing, it's easier for children to be valued for nothing else than being a child. Again this situation is horrible and takes place in many places in the world; India, various African countries, Various Eastern European countries, And you see it here in the U.S too when people don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. While on an immediate level yeah,it's easy to blame the average person, but the real culprit is capitalism and globalization. And the fact that we as members of the human race continue to allow 20% of the population to hold all the wealth.
good movie,but that country is messed up,they dont care about all those kids on the street,also in russia there are 1 million children living on the streets,its a sad world we live in,i was kicked out of my house at 13 when my parents split,my mother died young she was alcholholic,shes dead now,dont know where my father is,but i was lucky my best friends family took me in.

I don't speak Portuguese and there were no subtitles. However, if you just study the body language, you will get the story. The acting was superb! I love this flick! Wow! 5/5
Good movie. 4/5 stars** The unfortunate lifestyle chain of events led to the inevitable conclusion. You never realize how blessed you and your family are until you see a movie like this based on real life.
This movie was so raw that at times I forgot it was a movie. Sad that there many places just like this in the world, where children are just thrown away. 8 outta 10 for me. What they were getting high on was human feces and urine.
Let's have more international movies. There are so many good movies from many countries in the world that we never see. It would be a welcome balance against the Hollywood garbage we get thrust upon us by distributors. It would also help further international understanding.
This movie moves beyond language, you don't need the titles. The director and actors were excellent. Don't pass this movie by, packed with emotion all the more for knowing it is a true story. That boys life was sad from start to finish.
Not too bad really. Even if not in english there is alot to see to be able to underestand without knowing the language. Bring a tissue with you while watching. 8/10
it was brilliant i don't speak portugese but the acting was so good i did not need to know what they were saying to understand what was going on, i can't think of too many american films that are this good
sad to see the life of street children they stay in insecure world and grow there this insecurity kills the human from them and results in this . very good movie..

Who killed both the girl(shot) and him(suffocated) was the police! I'm carioca and remember exactly the facts.. It's a shame that what was published was different. The movie by the way, bravely keeps that "doubt" in the air..
although i could'nt understand what was said in this movie i'm very good with body language, expressions and emotions like( SEKIN BEY )said the scenes pretty much speak for it self. also a very good movie 4/5
