A very well made production indeed, it reminded me a little of The House Of The Spirits, the story of a mansion and what dwells within, as other site-members have pointed out, the only drawback is this is part one, the conclusion is yet to come, so far I rate it a 4/5.
crowley, stoker, ghosts, old, spooky mansion, ancient, immortals gods, necronomicon(?)--seemingly everything looks perfect. Good shooting, great location etc but i still feel like watching poor and lame TV production. I think it's a good movie but there is something missing, i don't feel a groove, it has no "ghost-feeling":)..i don't know how to express even in polish:) anyway waiting for second part because it will be better i hope. and the opening credits -great:)
Fans of H. P. Lovecraft tales and mythos should be pleased.
A very well made movie with top notch production.
The only drawback is having to wait for part two, other than that - the plot has me hooked, so I hope it comes out soon cause I really want to find out more.
I just found this about the movie,this is the 1st part and there will be another yaa..
"La Herencia Valdemar (Valdemar's Heritage) is the first of a two-part story based on tale written by H. P. Lovecraft. It's the last picture of Spanish actor Paul Naschy whom career is linked to terror (specially with his classical character "Waldemar Daninsky". It is a very good film, with many topics of Cthulhu stories but in the good side. Film has two parts, one in present time, when the character of Silvia Abascal has to make a study about the value of an ancient mansion (Valdemar House); the second one is in the 19th century, and explains the origin of the mansion. There are many little things for smiling, as the names of some minor characters or the handle of the staff of Eusebio Poncela character. An interesting point is the fact that the film had no public money, a good exception in Spanish cinema. Sequel of the film is now in post-production.
The opening titles are very,very nice.It starts well,it's atmospheric,it has you guessing,it's pretty nice.Then about 25/30 minutes into the movie it starts losing it's horror/mystery touch.

"it's your usual gothic love 'n' haunt story.couple gets married,something happens,one of the two dies and their huge,beautiful and overly creepy mansion-which is in the middle of f* nowhere-gets haunted by en evil spirit,or something like that.it has a horror moment or two,but nothing much
Plus,there is no ending.The movie leaves you hanging there,without explaining a single thing,since there's a part II and you're supposed to watch it in order to understand what's going on.I totally hate this kind of movie. 2,5/5

Can I rant?Ok,I will,it's my comment anyway.When will people in the movie industry understand that it would be ok if they returned to the good old movie,when the d*mn thing ended properly after 90'/1h/2h/3h??I'd rather watch a long movie and know what happened in the end,than start watching a movie when I'm 14 and end up watching the last part with my 14 yo. daughter (if you know what I mean).There,I said it.
This IS A MUST WATCH For Horror/mystery/ghost Fans
guys c'mon don't let this slip you by, its a Quality Lush production.
the acting of the main characters is superb..
the story is lovingly told
its not scare a minute nor full of gore edit though there are gruesome parts ...and gory
but it builds up a superb story involving real people from history..and in the case of Crowley fairly physically accurate
portrayal and his deeds are well published across Europe.
what makes this stand out is its attention to who the main characters were and what they were about before an evil entered their lives..
I believe the sequel will be more about how that evil became manifest but I for one will be waiting impatiently..this year I hope
just a warning again..think empire strikes back in terms of ending so you don't end up frustrated
opening credits this look tasty as..ten minutes in and no idea where its going but think it will be a good ride
this was brilliant...
two warnings Its part one...and its not for thrill a minute seekers
the story is really well told and very intricate...its obviously part of a serious whether that just be two films or three is unclear...but damn I enjoyed this...great acting great story line and great set up for the next film....
did any one else notice the max guys cane and the very end clip of the next movie..hmm
