In Julie Taymor's version of 'The Tempest,' the main character is now a woman named Prospera. Going back to the 16th or 17th century, women practicing the magical arts of alchemy were often convicted of witchcraft. In Taymor's version, Prospera is usurped by her brother and sent off with her four-year daughter on a ship. She ends up on an island; it's a tabula rasa: no society, so the mother figure becomes a father figure to Miranda. This leads to the power struggle and balance between Caliban and Prospera; a struggle not about brawn, but about intellect.
I was hooked from start, it's a beautiful poetic film, Shakespeare of course behind it. Helen Mirren is outstanding as Prospera.. enough good things go on that make up for some weakness. Fantastic watch.
Used to love hang'n out at the arcades back in my High School days. :o} Wasn't in to very many games. Mostly went to hang with my friends. Seems I remember Tempest yet didn't play it. I did play a lot of Pin Ball! Then Space Invaders, Galaxian & Galaga, Frogger, Centipede, Pac Man, Ms Pac Man, Asteroids and a few others I don't recall off hand. Was Only 30 some odd years ago! LOL Simon, was the hand held, don't recall that one at the arcades. Played Tetris back in 94 on my stepson's little hand held dom-ahicky LOL! Was home bound due to illness. After 3 days in a row playing it all day,8-10 hrs, thought my thumbs was gonna fall off! LOL I think today's games, gamers world is missing out on so much! Getting out of the house, getting up off ya back side. Actually meeting and talking to others face to face. Yea the ideal of getting to meet others from all over the world is really cool. But Nothing in today's gaming world can replace going to your local arcades!
I remember this video game from back in the early 80's you would have to avoid the spikes and shoot the things coming at you in a circle then find a clear tunnel to go to the next level. Wow we must have dropped 10 grand in that arcade between Space Invaders , Defender, Galaga , Tempest, Galaxian , Tanks, Pacman , The entire arcade you would hear Space Invaders dum.dum.. dum..dum.. dum dum ..dum..dum
arcades where much better back then dum dum dum dum haha wen read your message i was back in the silver strike again that was my arcade i lived in as kid in liverpool mate an am still a gamer ps3 now or should i say still a kid inside haha thanks for the memory jog
