Jeon Woo-chi, a 16th-century Taoist wizard is released from wrongful imprisonment inside an ancient scroll after 400 years to battle evil goblins in modern-day Seoul. The only problem is that Jeon is more interested in sightseeing and womanizing than fighting the supernatural forces that threaten the modern world. [Korean - English Subtitles]
A fantastic movie fitted for a Sunday evening. Loved the green goblins blood, mean rabbits and gods hidden for the ages under human skins forgetting about their divine origins.
they used this as a good opportunity to critique society from a historical point of view. in the east asian world view scholars ruled the society (because they acted selflessly), then came farmers/peasants (because they produced life), artisans/craftsman (because they did things with their hands), and lastly the merchant class (because they were seen as primarily self-serving). so while the merchants were the richest they were looked down on as no on expected them to provide for the population. Jeon Woo chi acknowledges this as ANYONE from his era would assume.
i'm glad to see the korean film industry finally do a taoist wizard genre movie. though korea has the same sort of legendary historical figures and similar cosmology, such films were more common in china.
I give this movie a 9/10. I think its even better then percy jackson and the lighting thief by far this movie had style/action/a great storyline.. a very incredible movie to me its a must see for anyone who likes good action/good storylines and arent half A..ed =]..great great movie =] inpressive even
