The Spirit is so wrong on so many levels it is beyond comprehension.
The visual concept feels like thievery from sincity even though Frank Miller had a hand in that too.
The acting and the sets are very stagey and claustrophobic.
The costumes look as if they were stolen from a studio locker from 3 different genres in 3 different time periods and compiled together to conserve cost.
When anything is possible where is the threat? I'm not saying the movie has to be believable but if it isn't in the least bit entertaining the result is ludicrous.
At the very least you can tell the movie was done with passion. So it's not the worst movie ever made... But it's in the neighborhood.

If you like gum-shoe naratives from 19th Century you will find this flix sports it well, as a classic suit of that age.
There are some slow parts, but be not discouraged, for the characters are well develop to make every facets of the story congeal unlike the movie The Book of Eli which needed another sixty minutes to accomplish that.
There are some senseless carnage mania, like the movie "ROBO COP" or other of the genre, but it adds to the fantasy of comic-book expression and should be embraced.
This film has all making of an acult following if one watch this film from the perspective and mind of the writer and vision of the director of this film.
I would not let my children watch it, for the adults themes all throughout the movie but it warrants an honest viewing -- maybe two to three times to see a masterpiece in the rough for the undiscerned eye and others an wonderful distraction on film.

I just loved The Spirit, and I'd watch it again anytime.
Just don't compare it to other adapted-from-comics movies.
The Spirit is in a class of its own. It exudes strangeness, and its humor comes out of left field so I understand it might puzzle some viewers.
Also The Spirit is a great visual treat, a piece of art.

at first I thought this movie was a joke but after watching it for the second time (yes, for the SECOND time), I kinda got the chance to appreciate it's humor. It's so trying hard to comic and graphic and all that, but in the end, it just falls into a parody. I like the sarcasm and the lameness of the exaggeration, though. I think if I were a eight year-old, I would've loved this movie. I wouldn't recommend this to whiny losers who think they've seen everything. But I do recommend this to people who could appreciate different points of view..
Pretty much a bad copy of other movies-Sin city, the crow, and the punisher. No point in watching it because theres much better movies with a very similar plot.
i liked cause it was different like sin city but i almost can't wait for it to be over just to see what happens at the end, so i guess u could said it kept in to the end but i wouldn't watch it again.
"The Spirit" was interesting enough to keep my attention the entire movie but I would not watch it again or recommend anyone to watch it either. I don't understand how the casting crew of this movie recruited such famous stars to star in this movie because the plot lacks continuity.
I own Sin City and 300 because I think they are well done 'comic' films but I am not buying this one.. This movie is awful. The effects are beautiful but the cardboard characters made the movie boring. The hero is suppose to be THE SPIRIT of the city but you get no feeling coming from him at all about the city or anything around him. The scenes did look like they were done by filming one comic panel after another then splicing them together. I am so glad I did not go to the theater to see this. 3/5
where do I start..oh I got it! This movie is cheesy! not that great at all the rating I gave it is for the beautiful women and the cute cat lol which was the only thing I liked in the movie was a disappointment thought it was going to be way better 2/5
Personally I really didn't like it, I was expecting another Sin City or 300 type of movie. This movie is a textbook old school detective story with a comicbook twist, it is a good watch for a comic lover and gives you a good appreciation for the book. It is just a matter of personal taste I guess and my taste says not for me..
This movie as alright 4/5 could of been way way way way way better but Eva babi smoking hott! and Samuel L. did his thing like always a must watch if u like the comic but sin city kinda of .. on this movie but watch it urself
I'm not really a comic kind of person but I still enjoyed this movie. The Spirit was looking pretty good and Eva Mendes but she always looks smoking hot =] 5/5
