ok i was liking the movies at first and then it just fell apart..it just really lack a real story behind it. this movie was so bad i just had to leave a comment and first of all he wasnt a SGT. he was a SSGT and you call them that never do you call them a sergeant.
Um..i really dont know what to say exactly..Like i watched the whole thing but if you asked me what i watched i wouldnt be able to say exactly..But i guess it was pretty good. Kinda got lost through a few parts but yeah..
This film is about soldiers assigned to notify the next in kin of a fellow member of the armed forces who is killed in action. Although it seems like we have seen this story before, I found it to be intriguing due to two terrific performances by the two leads, Ben Foster (as SSgt Will Montgomery) and Woody Harrelson (as Capt Tony Stone). When two soldiers arrive at the door stating awful news like: “The Secretary of the Army regrets to inform you that ..”; one is immediately draw in to the trauma that ensues. Basically, this is a nightmare for anyone with a loved one serving in the military. The perspective that we see is from an angle that most of us have never considered and the psychological toll that it takes on these men doing this type of work was handled with insight and sensitivity. Overall, the plot is a bit weak, especially when we are observing Will trying to start a romantic relationship with a recently widowed mother. However, the film is at its best when we observe human behavior, as in a scene with a man (Steve Buscemi - who has never been better) who learns his son has been killed. This film shows the sometimes invisible victims of war, the survivors, and a pain that is tolerated but never quite healed, as we come away feeling a little beat up emotionally, too. I recommend it with 3½ of 5 stars.
the movie was fantastic, the emotions were so raw and perfectly carried out.
ben foster and woody harrelson did an amazing job, i loved their acting..they really get to u!! Perfect.
The Messenger can be placed in the Genre of “What was all that about” as on times films should NOT be made, as the subject matter is Not Entertainment! This film for me was not entertainment; however it was produced to a very good standard.
The film slowed down to almost a stand still towards the end of the film, which was more to do with the script and the story line, as the actors did a very good job with what they were given to work with.
I did not enjoy this film, as for me it had no real reason to be made.
memi - for a guy who watches so many movies and always says some% rated the film (which I have never understood what you are saying) you obviously miss the point very often and especially with this movie - it was excellent and makes one realize how lucky most of us are to not have to deal with war and it's consequences - 100% rated this film (my turn to say that) - I know this will be removed by area51 or whomever- I see why Woody has received an Oscar nomination - great movie and excellent acting
The idea of the % rate is based upon the following;
Item (A)
First of all I take the overview as to the budget of the film; it may be BLOCKBUSTER HOLLYWOOD FILM, INDEPENDENT FILM, A Film, B Film, or even a C Film. Once I have established the type of film I then divide the film into the entertainment factor which for me can be a rate of up to 50%.
Item (B)
Once the entertainment factor has been established I then add the production values which cover both post and pre production values, which for me can be a rate of up to 25%
Item (C)
The final stage is to determine the actor’s abilities and contributions to the film which once again will have a rate of up to 25%
Once all factors have been considered I then end up with my rate of the film. For example;
Item (A) = 20
Item (B) = 10
Item (C) = 15
TOTAL RATE would be = 45%
As stated in my post "The film slowed down to almost a stand still towards the end of the film, which was more to do with the script and the story line, as the actors did a very good job with what they were given to work with." Hence I understand why Woody recieved his Oscar Nomination for this film.
I do not see any reason as to why your post needs to be remoed rearding this film, as you have not been abusive in any manner.
Hope that this as helps in some way.
Best Regards
Mike
The Messenger is a very strong and touching movie.. Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson did great jobs in this.. I found it to have the same style as "Taking Chance" in which Kevin Bacon escorts the body of the fallen to the family.. This isn't your traditional War movie, it deals with the raw emotion of the lost and those who come back but never really do.. I completely agree with Woody Harrelson's character's comment that every fallen American Soldier's funeral should be televised, that way more people would feel the gravity of losing someone who defended our Freedom.. 5/5..
Great drama about war and how it affects people differently - Woody Harrelson has received an Oscar nomination and it is understandable although all the acting was great - for a movie with little action or horror it sure kept my attention - soldiers never receive the gratitude they deserve and they are all heroes for doing what is expected of them - 10/10 for the script alone
there is a time for war and a time for consequences..this is a very honest try to deal with a very difficult subject. May be it all comes together too easily in the end but..
good movie bringing home another message of iraqi war vets..movie was going on a decent pace but towards end it just seemed kinda all over the place and the ending like they ran out of storyline or decided "ok movies long enough thats a rap folks"
This movie wasn't all what I expected it to be from the hype and all. I mean it had the emotional scenes and the portrayal of how difficult job they have, but there was something missing here for me. Overall worth a watch and 3/5.
This wasn't a bad movie at all. Like another viewer commented earlier the family of a KIA only receives a certain amt of $$, a flag and in SOME cases a 21 gun salute, not to mention the Honor, is true but what about the other benefits that are LONG TERM ?? Getting back to the movie..The job those guys were given is one I don't think I could do. 6/10 only because the movie doesn't portray what the person(s) really goes through as Messengers of Death
compelling movie woody Harrison was great maybe one of his best performances i think you have to of been in the army or lost somebody to understand the movie also helps if youve been drinking!
This is a strong movie; specially for those who have been to war and survived. It also means a lot to those who lost their loved ones in a place they don't even know how to pronounce.
Getting back to civilian life is an emotional process, many surviving soldiers can't handle. They're back home physically, but mentally they're still in the battleground.
Great movie. Excellent acting. I'll pay to see this movie again. Go see it.
Pretty good. 9/10 .. One part didn't happen in real life like it did in the film.
[SPOILER]
When my son's friend was killed and they had to tell his parents, they didn't leave and come back later when the mom was at work, instead they had her husband call her and act like he was at work and told her to race home because the dogs got out of the yard again and he said he couldn't leave work to do it him self.. When she got there and saw all of them, she knew. They didn't hide their cars either.
A good movie. My brother lost his friends during the Falklands war and a tour of Ireland. I can identify with the pain and suffering that happens to those who serve their country, and those who are family. I wish there was peace.
