A another great sequel, but in my opinion they should have led the IP Man role to Donnie Yen, some say he is too old for the young IP Man role, but I see most of the cast from the previous two, besides no one would have objected seeing him again, Though the IP Man in this movie was great too, but he lacked the charisma of Donnie Yen. Nevertheless a good movie and I enjoyed it but with a bit of disappointment not seeing Donnie Yen. 4/5
U guys may not have noticed, but the main actor in this movie acted in Ip Man2, as one of the disciples of the master who died in the boxing ring, the one who wore a beanie, who lost to Ip Man's first disciple. He had rugged shaved chin.
The big gap I see here is, since its a prequel, some of his fighting moves were not used in Ip Man 2, which kinda made Ip man 2 seemed a little less exciting on the kung fu parts. Overall i think this is an awesome movie.
This was good but this didnt felt part of the ipman movies. It didnt link to the first at all. Fighting wise, it was really pleasing but story wise it left a lot of holes and no bridge from this movie to ip man 1.
Really good edition to the other 2 movies and personally if i hadnt seen them before i would start with this one as its how the legend started.donnie is obviously not taking up his role as ip man because the movie portrays him as a youth and i must say i was impressed with the young actor who replace him..i would even say he looked very much like a young donnie yen and his fighting skills looked really good.
The movie is a little slow but it has all the elements a good movie should have..there`s a good storyline,a bit of romance thrown in and some amazing fight scenes even if there was a bit of wire work(which martial arts films dont these days?).all in all its a cool movie but maybe falls short of the previous movies.8/10..LOL@grayfort.
