If you are a fan of Hitchcocks films then you will enjoy The Ghost Writer, a suspenseful film that beautifully unravels. One things for sure this was not made for a mainstream audience; a film for the discerning viewer. 8.7/10
Good actors in this movie. The acting and storyline was good and as the movie went along, it kept my interest up wondering what was going on. The ending kinda let me down in the way that I thought it was senseless. 3/5
Strange comments so far..but to understand fully the implications of this thought provoking movie ,by a masterful director such as Polanski,you should have been born this side of the pond,if you know what I mean..too many things stand unanswered about the last ten years..this film only drops a few hints on one of thousands of possible scenarios ..if you only like "dream on " action watch Salt ..4/5.
I fully understood the movie and it's implications. The British TV drama 'The Trial Of Tony Blair' covered similar ground. I just didn't find it to be a very good film and the twist at the end was so hackneyed and weak that it caused me to groan in disappointment. The movie cranked up the tension effectively but to eventually no end. I can enjoy action movies such as Salt but very much prefer a good, taught political or courtroom drama/thriller. This was not a good one in my opinion, and not due to my not understanding it.
The conclusion makes you think about the past 13 years. Wonder if Polanski is sitting on something big he's only hinting at here? I'd love it to be true as I'd love nothing more than Blair in front of a proper court accused of war crimes.
I like Ewan MacGregor and he made this movie for me and my good lady.
Well acted etc but on the whole rather disapppointing. A simplistic twist doesn't raise the movie above average. Tom Wilkinson is one of my favourite actors and I read that he steals the show with a very tense scene which had the commentor riveted. I could not believe what a complete let down that scene turned out to be.
Polanski edited this from prison. On this evidence he should stay there.
