Wow..for an 80s movie this was real good. Sadly I didn't watch this movie until 2006. I watched it by myself for the first time thinking..what the heck..it's early 80s how scary could it be. Boy was I in for a shock. If you have never seen this before..don't do like me and watch it by yourself at night. Of course things are always scary the first time, I've become numb to it now, but this and the Entity were the two movies I thought I could watch by myself. I give it 8/10, especially since this was made in '81!
this movie scared the CRAP outta me when i was a kid..now it's just funny as hell!! it's just what it was intended to be, gory, bloody, messy, with no storyline, a lot of "F" bombs, and a sex scene. perfect for those of us who like a good, old fashioned "horror" movie. 5/5
I watched this movie when I was a teenager originally, but I don't remember it being this good. There were actually a few parts that caught me off guard and made me jump. The demon chicks were also pretty creepy looking, and there was some good gore, too. Some nudity and/or sex would have made it better, but still a damn fine horror movie with some good scares. 3.75/5 stars.
An amazing film. This is grindhouse horror at it's best. This movie delivers horror in all it's glory, dishing out fear as it should be...raw, terrifying, and gory. Not to mention this movie has left such an imprint that it started both Sam Raimi's career as a smash hit director and Bruce Campbell's career as an awesome actor. All I can say is 5/5
Some of my fav Horror's as i was growing up, never get bored with any of them. Very good cult classic Movies. Bruce campbell was amazing, I here they bringing out an army of darkness 2 with him in it in 2010, would like for someone to confirm this! 10/10
Just like all other's before this one, a poorly thrown together story, gore, but surprisingly the acting was good. And after they were finished makeing it they decided to throw it the "Horror" section. You would have to cry during a thunder storm to find this scary..if anything it's anoying.
Rules for typical modern day so called "horror" films?
1. Must have no story what so ever.
2. Must be filled with gore.
3. Must say the "F" word more than seven times, and all others at least ten times or more along with at least one of them in every other line.
4. Must have at least one nudity scene and one sex scene.
5. Must be ridiculously un-realistic.
6. If it's a 90 minute movie, at least 50 minutes of it must be language, 10 minutes nudity and sex, 20 minutes gore and the other 10 minutes of regular enjoyable stuff.
There you go.
If you noticed this is far from a "Modern" horror film it was made in 1983. And at that time it was a awesome horror flick and has become a cult classic in its time. All in all its just plain dripping in awesomsauce. Gotta see all three, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and, Army of Darkness, preferrably in that order to fully appreciate the classic trilogy. Far from annoying in my book but normally most people have to be born around those times to truly appreciate a good classic when they see one.
My boyfriend told me about this movie a few years ago. I thought one night I would watch it..by myself. I figured 80s horror, how scary could it be? Proved me wrong! This is one of the most under rated horror films of all time! 5/5
this was one of the stupidest films ive ever seen in my life.
the acting is shocking and the gore is soo fake i could put my face to the screen with the volume on full in the dark by myself and probly not even flinch tbh wasnt scary at all. funny in a way though. and the fact it got band from america wen it got released is just god damn hilarious
Again, it was made in the 80's and they didn't have that high tech of graphics or ability to create "particle gore" they had to improvise. As for your assumption that it was banned from the USA you are sorely mistaken as it was banned from Germany not the USA. The information is available on IMDb as is the following quote from the site,
"In Germany the movie was released to the theaters and on video the same day to avoid problems with the censorship boards. It was banned shortly afterward but dominated the top ten in the few weeks of his release. The movie is still banned theatrically in Germany"
So technically only banned from theaters but not from DVD releases (however the DVD releases in Germany have been hacked to heck and back to make the local censors happy)
If you watch it again without the expectations of the 21st century then you might just get why it is indeed a horror flick.
Besides to ban this movie from the USA they would of had to ban "Heavy Metal" Just on principle that it had practically explicit sex scenes (granted animated but still there none-the-less)
