First off, I can't believe I watched the WHOLE movie :S I was ready to call it quits after the

"chopstick incident" - now I know how guys feel when they see another guy get kicked in the nuts! That scene, more than anything, will haunt me for awhile :(
- but I wanted to see them catch the guy and bring him to justice. The ending just showed

what a coward he was - not admitting to the crimes and taking his punishment like a man.
Some funny parts, lots of violence and gore..Not really a horror..Overall, a 6/10
Was this based on a true story? Gross. That's a lot worse than eating cat tamales. The movie was pretty good, kinda cheesy in spots especially with the cops comments but its still creepy.
A classic "B" type movie. The story was very disturbing and the gore scenes, although a bit contrived, were plentiful, towards the end. The killer, ranks up there with the Mansons` and Dahmers` of the world ( actually a mix of both of them). The attempts at humor were, at times, painful to watch, however, the slapstick was needed to tell the story. This film is a low budget gem that is worth watching, that is if you can handle disturbing pictures of torture.

The showing of the Children being killed was very disturbing.
what a gruesome demented film that was but had to keep watching all the same. the police were like the key stone cops, the comedy distrated me from the full impact of the gore that ensued
Good movie.. Not as gory as everyone made it out to be.. I've definitely seen worse.. Kinda dragged on a bit for me, especially at the end.. Which also came as a huge disappointment.. but overall the movie wasn't bad..
I found the violence to be more cartoonish than clinical, though indeed the situations are profoundly disturbing.
The inept cops, the incorruptible attorneys, the police chief's "girlfriends", the police woman's unrequited love for her boss, the villain without a single redeeming quality - brilliant mix of comedy and graphic violence.
It amused me how nobody wanted to open the letters from the family on the mainland.

This is extremely violent. I can't believe I actually sat here and watched it -through my fingers.
One thing it does have is a plot, some humor to lessen the shock, and it makes sense. All of the things that Hallettsville did not have.
I don't think I'll watch it again. My gore meter is pegged out and probably will be for some months to come.
Very good story. It's almost as if the occasional comedy was used to deliberately give the viewer the wrong impression..then violence and gore ensues. An interesting mix.
It eventually shows its true nature closer to the end;

the scene with the kids was insanely brutal.
Definitely a solid 5 stars in the gore department.
horror 'cause its horrible, not scary. worth a watch though. must have seemed even more gruesome in '93 before saw and touristas and those type of movies. it shows how insensitive we've become.
