In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
It's a good movie but in the end it seems like Spielburg's E.T. with attitude. Rehashed, amped up for a more aggressive 2011 audience and too close a story line to E.T.

alien needs to get home, bunch of kids in the thick of it - alien makes it home etc.
He probably thought that since E.T. did so well in the box office he would do something along the same lines and make some more summer money for a new generation of alien loving kids rather than for the love of great movie making (which I normally feel from his movies) Good and watchable but not great and slightly empty and pointless in some parts.
One of this summer’s biggest films takes you back to the good old classic times of E.T., The Goonies and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Super 8 has 70's/80's nostalgia written all over it and is probably the film Spielberg fans have been waiting for. One interesting point is the film cost $50M to produce, making it by far the cheapest blockbuster at almost a quarter of the cost of the new Transformers movie. This in itself is a testament to Spielberg who has made huge box office films on modest budgets that deliver to mainstream audiences. This is a film to be seen in the Cinema first, if you want to capture all those nostalgic moments and feel like a kid again.
it began like a Spielberg film but then i felt i was watching two different films in the one.. a mish mash of scary horror and kids adventure that didnt blend for me
think the goonies with the creature from alien appearing and you'll get my drift
saying that people I respect loved it so..who knows
Forget that this was a Steven Spielberg movie and you won't be left disappointed! People complain because from SS you expect huge things..on it's own it really is a great story.
I really liked this movie myself. It reminded me of a Stephen King book before it's been destroyed by being turned into a movie.
I love movies that are set back in the 60's and 70's..I like the innocence of that time. I give this movie 5/5
The movie is unbelivably great its really well done from a great idea its wierd for me my two favourite Spielberg movies I guess War of the World 2005 and Super 8 2011 well in 2005 he was working with Dakota Fanning now hes working with her sister Elle Fanning .. coincidence?
Well whi cares both were great preformances the last time I was so stomped by a spielberg Feature was war of the Worlds I loved that movie and still do lol I might just put it in after I wrote this XD The guy who will even try and beat Spielberg will have a run for his money XD

I Loved the ewnd credits bit but after an ending like that it just really hurt the experience for me when the credits came I was thinking it over it really got me than .. that
10/10 Though Can't wait to add it to my collection
3/5 This movie was a good watch just glad I didn't spend money to watch it and I would not watch this movie again. I am giving this a movie a 3 star just cause of the kids in the movie.
previews makes this movie look something mysterious and supercool but honestly this movie sucks, previous works of speilberg were superb but this one is a disappointment, for me train crash is something not to miss..except that i would give it 4/10, it was better if i had passed this one
