Such a beautiful and wonderful movie. Probably best sci-fi ever made. The message is clear today, even more so. The scenes with the robots were so so very sad and touching, as is the consequence if we do not awaken in time. I think these simple little robots were the best robots I've ever seen in movies. Don't miss this movie. It's one that can be watched again and again.
I saw the original movie at the drive-in, And I didnt even know it was a scifi we were going to see.
But I was glued to my seat once it began.
After the movie everyone blew it off within seconds, But I would never forget this film, For as long as I live.
This is a five star movie all the way. And the comments about human behaviour are very disturbing.
I would hate to think that my species is as stupid, And short sighted, As this movie depicts. But then it was made to get peoples attention so..
Bruce Dern gives one of his best performances against his typecast in a meaningful film full of subtext for the new millineum. It's been over 20 years since I've seen this film and I enjoyed it still. Joan Baez sings the songs, and that should tell those in the know of the Pro conservation movement(even showing a the conserationist pledge)
Plant a tree, or do something for mother earth while resisting the destruction of Her natural domains.
as long as you keep in mind this a 1972 movie, its a good film. way ahead of its time, r2d2 was in this film first. along with many other (far out) ideas. i wish people who were mad at bruce dern for killing john wayne in the cowboys, could see this..he would be redeemed. 4/5 stars. it couldve been better in some parts.
How funny.. American Airlines owns the ships and is the company who says to blow them up.. Why would they want to be involved in the movie if they are the bad guy.. Good flick tho..
If you like movies made before 1980, you'll enjoy it. Still can't believe this movie is listed on this site. Watched it as a kid many times. Now all grown up, it's somewhat sad.. =( but I'll keep continuing to watch it from time to time. 4/5
It was a good movie,, i really enjoyed watching it.. I saw this when I was very young.. it was good to see it again,, well worth my time seeing it again..
One of my favorite movies. I am not an eco nut, but I'm not stupid either. The era in which this was done was a time when we were dumping all kinds of toxic poisons from unregulated production into the air and water. We used all kinds of lethal chemicals in our homes and on our crops. I stood out in the fields with a rag on a pole to help the crop duster line up for the passes over our fields of rice, cotton, potatoes while they dumped DDT, defoliants and other stuff on me and the world.
Silent Spring had come out just a few years before this one was made (I think). We were just becoming conscience of the balance of nature and the horrors of our mistakes like Love Canal.
Bruce Dern is a good actor and this is his most memorable role to me.
Star Wars seems to have eclipsed a lot of great S.F movies that preceded it.
Silent Running is one of them.
A beautiful and thought-provoking space movie.
