A documentary about the decay and industrial collapse of America's fourth largest city. The documentary, directed by filmmaker Julien Temple, tracks Detroit's past, present and future and calls it "a slow-motion Katrina that has had many more victims."
I grew up south of Detroit, and honestly didn't know even a FRACTION of what historical information that came from this documentary. Amazing seeing such a huge civilization rise, and so quickly be reclaimed by nature.
This really hit me hard, into my inner core. I had family that lived many years there until they passed away. I've been to Detroit so many times, and this Documentary has "OPENED" my eyes as I didn't know just how sad the city of Detroit has became.
GOOD DOC.WHAT A MESS.SAD.DON'T BLAME EVERYTHING ON THE MOTOR COMPANYS.CRACK DESTROYED AND KILLED THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IT. JUST LIKE THEY DESTROY EVERY OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD.COME TO NYC.
Story needs to be told, pass this one along. The last five minutes GREAT that is what we all need to be doing across this country!! America is GREAT and it is THAT attitude that makes it great. NOT government!
I disagree totally the idea of blaming companies or any other entity for what happened is to say YES we the people are sheep..
Remember were a lot of factors unions, legacy payments, AND pensions that people are enjoying now and how about the stock holders who are also average people who enjoyed the dividends when times were good. AKA mutual funds.
FIRST OFF MY LOVELY PROFILE PIC WAS TAKEN @ BELLE ISLAND. The information in this was on point. I feel that they ( the big 3 )need to come and clean up the mess they left behind. How rude! I wish that they would have talked about Belle Island and some of the programs they had for the youth in the 80's. In the Cass Corridor we had Kelsy's on Third and the Lodge. There we would go swimming. We also had the swim mobile, book mobile, The Art Museum and so much more for the youth. Lastly the ring that the artist was wearing was designed by my husband. It is a fork ring. ( e-bay)
great doc! everyone and every corporation could learn something from this, but they wont, the corporations that is, because ppl care more about money then ppl. what will we do? --- when the last river is dry and the last fish is eaten, only then will man discover he cannot eat money - Cree Indian wisdom (not exact word for word, but something like that)
I have been to Detroit, this is all true. The companies knew what they were doing and the government allowed this to happen. They allowed the big three and countless other companies tax breaks and many other incentives to go elsewhere and overseas. This is still being done to this very day. I have been to Tallahassee to protest some of these bills being made into law, and one can plainly see that no consideration is being made for the public at large in terms of law and tax breaks, only the companies, special interests and lobbyists, while raising our taxes and fees. There is no more middle class in this country, only the rich and the working class, which will soon all be the poor.
Great documentary of what the future holds. Nicely put together ,very interesting, sad and true. I'll certainly watch this again and suggest it for others.
5/5
We need to learn that Corporatism and the elite are the enemy and have been since the beginning. Nothing but nothing is done in our interest, only for their Profit and they will never stop unless forced. Greed is the most devastating evil ever. 5/5
