PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.
This movie was enjoyable to have watched. The Priest had some mad skills and the Vampires looked awesome. I wished there could have been more action on an even larger scale. I really like those sweet looking motorcycles. For me I would give it at least 3 out of 5 stars.
Firstly, what was good about the movie? IMO, the steam-punk look throughout was just beautifully slick, and very rich in content. The sets were great, and gave a great atmosphere. I loved the walled-in, steel-overloaded futuristic cities, with a 1984 vibe going on. It had contrasts of different styles, too, that overlapped each other, which gave it a chaotic feel; alike the whole city was an asylum. The Priests themselves where actually pretty cool, also.. I loved the hooded outfits, and the fact that they went with putting a big cross on their faces, in my view, was a really brave thing to do, and it actually worked quite well. Also, the vampires were quite interesting, as they weren't your traditional type; added to that, there are other types of vampires, also; which added to the movie. However, the downsides to the movie out weighed the positives. The movie itself, not counting the end credits, was 72 minutes long; and it felt even shorter. Also, the threat from the "bad guys" was so slight, and so feeble, it just felt like a non-event. Then, from the first scene alone, I guessed where the main antagonist role was going to come from, and pretty much guessed every other event that was going to come, because it was just simply too predictable. Also, they didn't show enough - or any - scenes where the pure blood vampires interacted. I felt that they should have gone into their history a little more. Then, there was the fact that there was absolutely no suspense to this movie whatsoever, no real storytelling; except for the intro. And, what was most annoying, IMO, was that they wasted a clear opportunity to make a really cool, slick movie. That obviously had the potential to have sequels, but after this, will they make a sequel? I hope so, because it was a great idea, but unfortunately, the only thing I'll get from this movie is to check out the source material. As I am sure this must have been based on a graphic novel, or a comic-book, because the movie was oozing with rich content. Also, I must say, the action was pretty darn good, too. Definitely worth a watch!! 3/5.
This guy and Paul Bettany teamed up for the movie Legion in 2009 which came out January 2010 thaty was a bit off now you can see that this movie got more money and its way darker but still honestly it was off the last time I felt this disapointed in a movie was Jonah Hex (I think I fell asleep on that or almost) but the point is it had a good story but iuts really confusing and dont get me started on the useless use of 3D my big problem is .. is that for some reason I was really looking forward to this and it was a total let down.
Visually its really appealing great horror action thriller but its one of those movies you totally forget by the end of the week figurativly speaking of course XD
Special effects were ok. I watched this at the cinema in 3D and it really didn't need it. There weren't enough moments were things had the potential to jump out at the watcher and where they tried to show depth to the image it just ended up being an eye-strainer as the 3D glasses tend to make certain aspects, especially the periphery kinda flashy.
I suppose that goes for all 3D movies anyway but 3D or not this movie was lacking a lot! For the time it lasted it seemed to end rather quickly. The character introductions were extremely brief and the story went from start to finish without much in between. The only reason I can imagine it would be made in such a way is that it will have a sequel. Truth be known, I couldn't care less about part 2. I really wont be going to the cinema to see it.
Enjoyed this adaptation of the comic,I would have enjoyed it more if they had played up the graphic element more. Loved the vampires, harking back to days of Giger..
