As the human city development encroaches on the raccoon population's forest and meadow habitat, the raccoons find themselves faced with the very real possibility of extinction. In response, the raccoons engage in a desperate struggle to stop the construction and preserve their home.
Wonderful animation and a very "green" story. Mostly, I think, a kid's story. This is kind of an unusual film. Miyazaki wrote the script and it was directed by Takahata, the film is a blend of both fancy and reality. The animation is very beautiful, the story has some good laughs and is, in general, pretty good. It just doesn't grab me. These is nothing specific to comment on, except that it is a tad slow. The film just doesn't have high drama. I think it is properly rated at 8.5/10 recommended
I really liked this movie. Although the general ending isn't the happiest.. really cute! must watch! Don't worry Ghibli fans. The first minute of it is a little boring (normal raccoons) but it gets good when they turn into cartoon animals!
