It is obvious that if you do not understand the actual concept of a Russian's soul take on humanity, good vs. evil, taking sides of fate and questioning beliefs on a global level, you will never understand anything a Russian movie has to offer and criticize it for your own fault of not being able to understand it. Yes, the special effects are awesome, vampires kick ass, but that's not the actual plot. Read the novel first, do some historical research on the concepts, and you will understand then, that Russian culture, new or old, s superior to any other.
Don't bother..it is like trying to explain the farwest concept to Mira Nair and Trying to explain Star Wars to Woody Allen..no one will get it.This movie you get as you should if you lived in russian society or are from that descence.I am surprised even wolfhoud (volkadav) was acclaimed a bit.I am still Laughing at Matt damon in his Borne movie, trying to speak russian and trying to act like one..funny. Same goes for most takes of Hollywood movies depicting Russians.If you don't get it, don't try acting that you do..it makes it worst but to the cluless who knows no better, he is certainly amazed..sad. Nochoi Dozor was better than Dnevnoi dozor(day watch) though.
..i'm watching the clock waiting 4 52minutes to go by so i can finish this wild & crazy movie, Night Watch. I agree that #6Megavideo has a great viewing & is in english but whats with the "time out"/ "intermission"? This is such a good 1 that i hate being interupted after 72minutes- ugh!!..gonna walk the dog 2 pass some time but i've to 2 FINISH THIS GREAT MOVIE!!
just one thing if the general of the dark set it all up how did he manage it without violating the treaty?
I need to see part 2, it might answer a few things and I hear the story is part of a trilogy! I might need to whole story to fully get it. The story is very layered beyond what you can see on the screen.
..OOookay-finished & i LOVED it! Not 2 many movies out there that r ALL over the place 2 include the past (era of swords & armor) & roof tops..'cept Highlander- but then that one doesn't have vamps, mm..

but like someone else has said, wish I spoke Russian, those subs are hard to follow but loved the twists and the great ending.
I've often enjoyed the Russian take on film making so I do have a bias.
i loved this movie and i'm not a vampire/horror fan at all. 5/5. i don't really get all the 'it's hard to follow' comments, cept it does make you question good vs evil. i'm still not sure who the good guys are, but that's the point.
Why do people always lie to me about films? This is one of the worse films i have ever seen. I swear i could hardly stay a wake! What a pile of crap!! 1 out of 10.
The action and stunning effects are BESERK! I love movies told in a very unusual style. Loved the camera angles, sound and special effects. Couldn't quite grasp the story till somewhere at the end.
To be really really honest..this movie lacked in style, direction, content and effects. By reading some of the positive reviews, I remained hopeful and was sorely disappointed. I'm pretty easy going on any films in the sci-fi and fantasy genre but I found myself forcing to stay with it throughout. I watched this one so I could go watch the sequel, Day Watch..that's not going to happen. This film is one that is either liked or it's not..no gray matter here. Try it..you may be one of those who enjoy..you will know in the first 10 minutes.
Why don't you just download these two films(night watch and day watch) from a torrent and the subs so it can be easier for you to watch it and understand the plot??!?!?!?!?stop complaining!!
good graphics. really hard to follow, not just becuase the subtitles but the cultural diffrence all in all i give it a 7.5/10, gonna watch daywatch now
I have read all the books; Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch and Last Watch, and I have to say, the books tell you everything and more, plus there a lot better. Even though I say this the films are some of the best out there, I don't mind the sub titles at all, it even inspired me to start learning russian :) (which i will do after my exams).
