Julia Child's story of her start in the cooking profession is intertwined with blogger Julie Powell's 2002 challenge to cook all the recipes in Child's first book.
What a movie, What an act, and how powrful, amazing and just mindblowing good!
Some people just deserve to get that happy ending and earn it so damn well and they have they idols to thank for it. I wish to become one of them but for now this was a D A M N fine movie i would not miss for the world.
I tried to enjoy the movie, but it was too slow and much too long. I had to put the stream in pause about five times, and take some fresh air. It just dozed me to sleep. But I'll have to admit Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina did their homework.
I loved the phrase, "You are the butter to my bread and the breath to my life. I love you darling girl." I thought it was perfect. If you like cooking, recipes, and blogging; this movie is for you.
This was pretty good.. A light feel good Comedy/Biography.. Meryl Streep and Amy Adams both do fantastic.. The Lobster scene was hilarious ("Lobster Killer").. Warning, this movie will make you hungry.. 4/5..
Who would have thought you could make an Oscar-worthy movie out of a cookbook? Hahaha, okay, it wasn't exactly a cookbook, but the movie was amazing! Hilarious, poignant, simple -- I really enjoyed this film. C'est ne pas "dommage!" 4/5.
Very good movie! Makes me want to learn how to cook even MORE now, haha. Its nice to see how the realationships between the husbands and wives were there for each other no matter what happened. Also, the story between Julie and Julia were great, showing what they both went through, to do what they loved to do. 5/5 Deffinatly worth a watch, it might be slow for some, and deffinatly not intended to be fast-paced by any means. But its meant to show how they went about doing it all, and what they did to accomplish what they started. Nothing is impossible.
I thought that this movie was great-it should be watched at least once. The ending rounded out nicely and it was interesting to see two lives juxtaposed together and even a little bit about the writing process and publishing process, as I am a writer myself. I found that extremely interesting/entertaining. I also love that they showed the highs and lows of both women and of both relationships, even though Julia and Paul's relationship was calmer, mainly because Paul was as cool as a cucumber (Stanley Tucci, ah!) So I'd rate this movie 4/5.
AMAZING movie!! 10/10 Meryl Streep is my favorite actress and she was ABSOLUTELY charming.. Amy Adams was GREAT also.. love love love it.. i wanna cook now..
It was a good change from the typical romantic comedy.. i liked a lot, it make me wanna learn how to cook and to see more about the work that a relationship requires.. very happy to have seen it!
Not the type of movie i'd usually pick, in fact if it wasn't for Meryl Streep it would have been totally boring, as it happened she brought it all together, great acting.
I started to watch this movie because I was afraid it'd be too boring to the female half of my family, to whom I choose two movies to watch on a weekend. Usually I watch only 15 minutes of each, make sure they meet all the criterias and end well.
So, I started to watch this one and I couldn't stop. At the same time I couldn't say if I liked it or not. It does have some things at the beginning that I personally dislike (though they have nothing to do with the quality of the movie).
NOW, I just finished watching it and now I can say for sure: I liked it a lot (despite those things at the beginning). It's funny, it has a story, it keeps you interested what's gonna happen next and you care for the characters. I hardly even noticed it's been two hours long.
All I can say that without Meryl Streep this movie would not be anything. She is so incredible! Just few days before I saw another movie with her in it and there is such a huge difference between her characters, and she handles both of them superbly! I would happily name her as one of the best actresses of all times and would watch any movie with her!
Having watched Julia on TV for years and using "Mastering The Art Of French Cooking" for as long, I was looking forward to seeing her portrayed in a movie. Streep absolutely captured Julia's very unique personality. I laughed and cried throughout the entire film. What a great movie!
