The greatest serial killer in history has never been named. But what if we are looking in the wrong place? In the 1890s a series of murders took place across the United States, and incredible new evidence may reveal the true identity of Jack the Ripper.
Liked this documentary it's entertaining and all seems very plausible, almost too plausible and neat. Basically I think we will never know the identity of Jack The Ripper for certain, and that's part of mystic of the whole case 4/5..
but it wasn't THAT convincing. I think it's very reasonable to assume that JTR moved on and probably to another major city where he could blend in and hunt prostitutes. After the last JTR killing, I believe, cities around the world started reporting JTR like murders. This happened in a time in history when for the first time news stories were going global. But I thought the detective and filmmaker were really pushing it in trying to make this guy's computerized age-regressed photo match witnesses description. At the end they slapped a handle bar mustache and a felt hat on him and voila! it was a dead ringer. Well if you put a handle-bar mustache and felt hat on Mother Theresa it would have looked liked this sketch.
Another fact they seemed to have skewered was the M.O. They described the American murders as 'exactly the same' as JTR. But the report they read quoted says the American prostitutes were "strangled, sliced open, and entrails pulled out," while JTR victims had their throats slashed from left to right.
Information wise, it's an interesting theory and I'm glad to have watched the movie. As documentary I feel they skewered the facts and lost their objectivity. It would have been more convincing if they didn't gloss over the discrepencies and gave them a proper treatment.
