I'm Still Here is a portrayal of a tumultuous year in the life of actor Joaquin Phoenix. With remarkable access, the documentary follows the Oscar-nominee as he announces his retirement from a successful film career in the fall of 2008 and sets off to reinvent himself as a hip hop musician. The film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads and explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.
It was all staged..get it? Even Joaquin's bizarre Late Show With David Letterman interview was staged. Here's what a writer from the show, Bill Scheft, had to say about it:
"That was all an act… Think Andy Kaufman without shaving. That’s what he was doing. And Dave knew about it and Dave loved it because he could play along. He could do whatever he wanted with it. And he did, and it was great television. But I will take credit for the line, 'I think I owe Farrah Fawcett an apology.' I gave that to him during the break."
Guess we've gotta give credit where credit is due. Admittedly, there were a few points where we weren't even sure what the deal was with this movie…BUT now we know and the magic is gone.

You are exactly right about an actor always being an actor. Especially during TV interviews. I remember seeing Brad Pitt on Michael Parkinson after the release of Joe Black. I could see right through the character he was playing in the interview but the audience were lapping it up.
Just think..At a fairly critical point in history, the USA had an ACTOR for president. HAHA!
Well at any rate..real or fake..performance art or just plain "out-there" this movie has us all talking which is what i love about this site. I was and still am a huge fan of his late brothers work and I have been a fan of JP for quite some time now. Yes I will see this..I just hope he gets back into more serious roles because he is soo talented. I still think he should have gotten an Oscar for his role in Gladiator.

Do you not watch t.v.?..or the read the news? It's all over the place ..this movie was a a big stunt for publicity. My comments can not be spoilers if the whole world knows!
Fake? So your saying his life is a fake, right? Regardless it has "Remarkable access" & fans of Joaquin will watch it no matter what "Casey A" says whoever that is!! Please define what you mean by fake, do you mean he never really quit to become a hip hop musician is that what you mean ?
