I really liked this movie. Had to watch it on another site last night. (Which sucks, btw! Can't find one that doesn't have issues with buffering. Ugh!)

this movie was kind of funny, especially when he kept escaping from prison..I considered this to be a parody after romantic comedies and Prison Break, I had no idea it was a true story until the end, even then I was in disbelief, as the hole story seemed like a joke to me ..in conclusion, I consider it to be a pretty good movie, if taken as a comedy, or even parody, and not as a sad true story (which I don't think the director ever intended to convey, or if he did, he did a lousy job of it)
this film was a bit unexpected for me,it was not what i had imagined it to be upon seeing the trailors and also i didnt know this was a true story until seeing the ending then googled but it had a bit of everything funny, sad,romantic defo worth a watch
Having read the previous posted comments I was dubious about watching this but was recommended it by a friend, so glad I ignored the homophobia and sat back and watched a good movie.
Carey and mcgreggor were superb and the laughs were constant as well as the amazement at the ingenuity of the character steven Russel that he played, obviously a genius, people like this don't want locking up they should be used to make society a better place !!

Sounds like somebody is trying to indirectly deflect hypothetical accusations of a certain sexual preference they may or may not have hidden in their cupboard.
Just a slightly psychoanalytical hypothesis of my own.
na i'm secure where I am..but Carrey's character had zero redeeming quality's..
and the love he felt for his soul mate didnt stop him setting him up for jail again by using his bank accounts to commit the frauds
I see zero merit in a man that who is obviously intelligent but instead of using that intelligence he brings nothing but chaos to all around him..and where was he while he was in jail all that time for his daughter..did he break out for her..noo he did it for the guy who he then put back inside
a sleaze bag narcissist of the highest order..I found him..not his sexuality repulsive
yes it made me want to puke also, and if u think i'm hidden in the closet, so be it, i really dont care what you think, but this movie i couldnt even finish, sick and gross. straight men acting gay, you have to wonder if that was acting cause he was all up in that crap. if i was their women, i would dump their gay butts.
I'm glad I didn't know anything about this before I watched it.
It made the revelation of what the film is about all the more shocking yet hilarious
in a weird, slightly uncomfortable way.
I have no problem with the theme but it just felt very odd seeing
Ewen McGregor and Jim Carrey going at it. Almost the same way I would feel if my dad came out of the closet and brought his new bf to dinner. (that never happened)
But anyway the story is great and there are some really funny parts in it..oh and a big twist towards the end.
Jim Carey is just as funny in this film, just like all his other films before this one. I just can't believe how well he played a gay guy. He did it just a little to well I think! LOL!!
I don't understand some of the comments slating this movie but, hey, the world would be a crappy place if we all liked the same thing. For me this movie was a winner. The acting was great, the drama flavoured with just the right amount of humour to give the watcher a reason to like the characters, and, as it is a true story, the things he was able to pull off just goes to show he must have been one hell of a good conman when he was operating. As a Scot I've been watching Ewan McGregor for a long, long time (way before he hit the Hollywood screens) and with movies like Trainspotting and Shallow Grave under his belt I would never have thought he could make a believable efeminate homosexual but he does. Jim Carrey's performance, too, was believable and I remember seeing him in straight roles (no pun intended) way before he went into comedy so I'm glad to see him returning to something with a bit of meat in it (again no pun intended). To the viewer who thought the sex was too much, I think you must have led a very sheltered life. There is nothing to see, everything is tastefully done and it is all pertinent to the story line. Watch with an open mind and I'm sure you will enjoy.
Read a majority of the user reviews prior to watching this. I wasn't sure what to expect but was somewhat impressed with it. While it's subject matter is somewhat sensitive, the story is based on true events. Carrey and McGregor delivered solid performances. Storyline was solid and supporting cast stood strong throughout. There are many moments of pure laughter and moments that are vile and disgusting (IMO). But as a film, it was good! I have to set aside my personal beliefs and remain objective! Make a note of it now, this film will be nominated for awards -- you'll see. Worth watching if you can remain objective.
I thought this was a genuinely funny film with a brilliantly original and quirky story, something most modern comedies lack. Jim Carrey puts in a real classic performance, he really shows that hes still got perfect comic timing. I think it was a brave role to take as the films story didnt immediately shout out ''mainstream audience''. I loved every minute of this film and there were many laugh out loud moments. Everyone in the film puts in brilliant performances and i was pleasantly suprised that Ewan McGregor took to comedy so well, it was a really accomplished performace from him. Although, on the surface, it seems like a light hearted comedy the film deals with some rather hard hitting subjects and comes accross as more of a Drama film than a comedy. This is a real breath of fresh air from the usual comedy films that Hollywood churn out, this has no cliches and is brilliantly original. I loved every minute of it and it is definitely another Jim Carrey classic. 5/5
not a big jim carry fan but i gave it a go anyways, so heres the rundown.
romantic drama about a guy who realises that he's not being honest with himself and decides to "come out".
its actually a pretty nice story, passionate with a few laughs and very well acted, probably jim carrys best acting to date, its a fairly slow paced film but it works and i enjoyed it.
people are making a fuss about all the man on man sex scenes but there are literally only a couple and they are Tame, you see a couple of bare chests and a peck on the cheek, most soap opera's have worse!
give it a watch,if your open minded then youll probaby see it as a nice romantic drama, 7.5/10.
This movie is a true story. Jim Carey's character exists and is currently serving a life term in a Texas prison. GWB gave him an unequivocal life term when he escaped yet again. The man is called the Texas Houdini.
Whoah made me cry in some part touchy though and very good twist at the end, oh man it's very good story and very good acting, Jim Carey and Ewan Mc Gregor are fantastic in this movie..10/10
Couldn't continue watching this because of all the sex scenes. I found them not only unnecessary but stereotyping gay people. Offensive movie that was unable to tell a love story without constant sex. 2/5
i disagree, Jim Carry is trying to get out of the generic comedy roles he's been in for so long, and credit where its due, he's actually a decent acter and i think he'll improve greatly in these more difficult roles, im no Jim Carry fan but in this i cant deny he was good.
