I watched this by pure chance somehow and compared it straight away with the old version. Frankly, it is not bad but does not contribute anything new to the Micheal Myers mythos except delivering more questions like his near invulnerability. His split personality thing was tempting but it was treated poorly i think. I like how they did it in the 80s version better where you see a normal person who cannot explain why he has no conscience while gradually changing for seemingly no apparent reason. This one offers a light explanation and at times seems incoherant. The needless swearing seemed out of place and the nudity scenes were expected but repetitive. Anyway, if you like it watch it but although it is not really that bad, it will remind you that it is still very much a B flick
i LOVE this version!! Rob Zombie hasn't lost his sick, twisted, totally crazy hold on things. i was so pleasantly surprised that i even looked at this, because most re-makes are rubbish..but this one was very well done. it isn't the original, but the new twists and turns worked very well. 5/5 stars
I liked the movie just as much as the original. They are both good, you just have to look at them from the time periods that they were made in. I like that they made the family a little dysfunctional and added more about the Meyers family unlike the original. Now as far as the swearing and nudity, grow up that's reality. People use bad language and have sex in real life. I think Rob Zombie gave a sound reason why Michael Meyers was so messed up in the head.
[SPOILER]
His behavioral problem must have started some time after his real father died and the step-dad came into the picture. Anyway, gave 4/5 rating because Meyers didn't kill both of Laurie's annoying b**** girlfriends. I don't know why he didn't kill her friend Annie thinking that because she is the sheriff's daughter that she can say whatever to others. That how a lot of people end up missing by letting you mouth move faster than your brain.
They should make a movie where Michael Myers meet and fights Jason, but before the fight they do their usual mayhem and killings, and I have the copy rights to this story line,I will sue for plagiarism7/10
I absolutely LOVE Halloween. Michael Myers is my favourite killer. I was excited to see this remake, just because I am such a huge horrorfan..slackers are my favourites. Think of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw, Hostel etc.
It started off alright. I really wasn't feeling the foul language, especially not on Michael's sister. I REALLY wasn't feeling young Michael either. It was a weird looking, scary kid, YES. BUT Michael Myers is NOT SUPPOSE TO TALK. That's one thing I love about the original Michael, he does not say a word (only in one of the last parts). He is mysterious and keeps you guessing how he ended up so twisted.
In this remake, yes it was very clear why he turned out psycho, but the whole "
[SPOILER]
my stepdaddy is a drunkass son of a .. and thats why I like torturing small animals and killing people
" didn't do it for me. Too bad.
I also didn't like the older Michael. He was WAY too tall and reminded me of Thomas in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They ruined the mask as well. In the beginning of the movie you see the original one, but when Michael is older, it's kinda crooked..not cool.
Too much sex in this as well (though, YES, also a bit in the original), and Laurie was just.. a bad actress. Loomis was weird as well and I just kept thinking how much I loved the old version. The entire movie I thought it was a joke and I longed for better actors.
The only thing I liked was that the little girl from part 4 & 5 was featured in this one. Loved that chick !! lol I recognized her immeddiately !
Storty itself..classic. Don't touch the classics only to ruin it.
Well although i don't agree with you 100%, but most of what you said was soo true.. The originals are always better then the remakes (everyone knows that) but this one was actually pretty good. Rob didn't remake the movie scene for scene, he actually wrote his own vision of why michael is the way he is, and thats why i love this movie. 4/5 for me i am looking forward to the second one.
I really like this version of Halloween it does live up to the original. Scarey..Gruesome and very flavor put on this movie. Be sure to check it out some unnessacry cursing and nudity at times but other then that liked alot.
Why do certain yanks find "rude" words and the nude human form SO disturbing, while enjoying the sadistic chopping up of innocent teenagers? Strange, upside-down kinda culture..
Of course, I'm just guessing the above is from a yank.. but who would doubt it? Anthropologically speaking, I feel sure this is a related trait to that which promotes aerial bombing of foreigners based on thier percieved "godlessness", eh? However, as a true fan of all horror stories, I thoroughly approve of these "evil" aspects of american culture! Any nation can feel better about itself by comparison.
"By the rocket's red glare, the bombs burst in the air..." I don't know it perfectly, but - best national anthem EVER!! It's all about the mass killing, baby! That redeeming human value crap is for the birds, or the commies, or anyone who don't love JEEZUS!
FIRST of all let me say NO Rob Zombie's version is NOT better. Halloween was made in 70s, which they didnt do alot of sh** like this back then. Times have changed. Rob Zombie did do an amazing job!! I love how sick and twisted he is in the head. Like seriously. BUT he morphs Michael into this weird lil' kid. I think he went to much into his childhood , but I like it. 4/5
I decided to give the remake a shot before having seen the original. Sure, it's not the best film in the world seeing as all the sex, nudity and swears seemed (to me) to rely on entertaining a teenage audience rather than everyone else. But on the whole, not, actually, a bad slasher movie.
I tried out the original and couldn't get into it. It was too slow and too cheesy. Sure, it's the original and I respect that but this is just my opinion - the remake has that modern, smooth flare that I prefered. Not to mention it gave the audience an opportunity to understand Myers rather than percieve him as just another reasonless psycho slashy monster.
Remakes are one thing but how dare you go and change the entire course of a movie. In the original Micheal is a twisted kid not an abused trailer trash monster with a ho for a mom. It changes everything way too too too much.
Rob didn't change the entire course of the movie. He just explained why Myers is F'd up in the head. And that story has always been there since the org. in the 70's. And if any of you had actually paid attention in the Org Halloweens when the Dr was talking you all would know that.
It`s not often infact I have been tring to think of one that a re-make of a film is as good as or dare I say better than the original. I won`t say better as they are different films realy apart from Micheal and his mask. The original was more creepy the new version was more in your face but it gave depth to Micheals charicter so he wasn`t a bogieman as in the original film. I also have to say the fact that Mr Zombie is one of the masters of horror and loves horror films he made this film out of love and not for a quick buck as most re-makes or sequels are or it seems now horror films are made. This was well acted, well scripted and well shot and just the right amount of blood. Great film 5 stars. I saw the unrated Halloween 2 last night this is why i`m righting this now and that was BLOODY good to.
This was a BRILLIANT remake! Anyone who loved the original Halloween movie needs to see this remake, they will love it. The casting was great, my only complaint was the girl who played the new Laurie Strodes, it wasn't impressive. Creepy, gory, and all around a great horror movie. 5/5
I think Rob Zombie is awesome, and I love his movies. This one is no exception. It's Halloween told with a slightly different story line. There is lots of killing, and I found it to be a bit more graphic then the older Halloween films. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of classic slasher horror as I am.
