i watched a programme on this film where they claimed to of got the idea from actual reports of cowboys back in the day tryin to shoot at silver flyin machines ( yes i am one of those ufo nuts )anyway enuff of that..the film was gud will watch again at sum point 8/10

I enjoyed it. Despite all the crappy feedback, thought I'd give it a shot, and it is certainly better than most of the rubbish out there. And I loved the cowboy riding off into the sunset..

Ok I like Cowboy films
I like also Alien films.
So whats not to like about this film!
Its a long film that is well worth the ride into the unknown!
Great film for the fun side of both Cowboys and Aliens!

Another movie fail for me. I was so looking forward to this one for ages and when I get to see it, a bit of a let down. Some good effects but the direction (Jon Favreau of 'Iron Man') felt loose. A good cast going nowhere in a bad clique script. A Sunday afternoon watch. 3/5.

This movie was “for me” fun to have watched. The neat flying machines and of course for us guys “Olivia Wilde.” Aka. Ella she was a delight to watch with her bad self. And of course for the Ladies Daniel Craig was a great bad boy take charge character. I wished that they had a different title for this “1873” era of a movie. I am not sure that the term “Aliens” was even in our books. “LOL” BTW I loved this movie “Awesome.”

I actually saw this last night. I was kinda happy I didn't pay $12 to see it. I don't know what it was, but it was missing something for me. It just didn't take me there. Still happy to see a Western representing this summer. 6/10

dont know why..reading some of the comments I swear I watched a different film from them..if you've not watched this film yet ignore the IMDB comments.
this film has flaws but as an adult not tweenie dumbed down or angst-ed up
non saccharine rarity nowadays this film is an entertaining romp with adult themes and sensibility's in a scifi western with top actors and great effects that don't overpower the film or rely so heavily on them that they are the film.
A great summer film

Should have been called Cowboys Versus Aliens.. which I think was a proposed title. OR.. [SPOILER] I Was Abducted by Aliens, and All I Got Was this Lousy Bracelet.. would have been a worthy title!!
Obviously, this comes from a graphic novel. The idea of mixing two things together, that would never seem to work in a million years, actually work really well. There's hope for chalk and cheese, then? ;) Daniel Craig was actually really good in this, and IMO, on a par with Casino Royale. Loved Harrison Ford, the actor that played his son was also a great role. My favourite character, was the "red-neck" prisoner from Predators. He was so funny in this; even if his role was really small. You may not notice his role, but since seeing him in Predators, where he jumped on the predators back, wailing.. "C'mon you space faggot!!" :) Then he gets his spinal column ripped out, with his skull still attached :( Anyways, if you like stuff that's trying to be different. Then, I'm sure you'll love this, as I did. It reminds me of Priest. Only in the concept that, it mixed Steam-Punk and Cyberpunk together. Where this is using hyper technology and the Western concept. I gave this 5/5. The copy I saw was OK.. IMHO.. I do have to say, it could've been better. However, what I liked about it, was the fact it went its own separate route.. even though it was a feel good movie in places, it was also very tragic, and in places, heart breaking. Maybe they were trying to mirror the opposites of the Cowboys & Aliens. Anyways.. I really recommend this movie.. LOTS!! Another Alien flick where, as always, we're the underdog, but it's a great story about the spirit of human nature, and how when we're threatened.. we can fight a common enemy. 90/100. The best bits.. the actors.. the clash of different cultures and the direction was incredible. The worst bit.. only because it was gross.. [SPOILER] UGH!! Did you see the part where the alien opens up the cavity in its chest.. revealing two little weird arms, with 3 fingers on each hand. I also thought it was quite inspired to have that, because they already have arms, and yet these 2nd arms are clearly used for the purpose of sensitivity. When the alien reaches out to the boy.. was this the alien showing friendship and wanting to connect with the boy? Maybe?

Just on entertainment alone I rate this film highly..and as a nostalgic nod to Sergio Leone westerns again..high praise. Mixed in with commendably straight faced acting when faced with the alien onslaught ..loved all the performances
That it has Major plot holes..loose ends..Insane coincidences to further the story line..and character story arcs so high and fast they beggar belief is neither here nor there ..
this was pure hokum entertainment for an adult audience
