An NYU professor discovers the true nature and intent of lost film makers, who were making a documentary on primitive cannibal tribes, when he returns from the Amazon with their footage.
This is the kind of movie that after watching it makes you think of it days later. The animal cruelty that is so abundant in this movie is real and perverts you. Thats why this is a one time watch only for me. I dont like to see things hurt for no reason. The soundtrack is absolutely brilliant though.
I saw the movie title under 20 most controversial films and decided to watch it. I read everyone’s comments before hand and was prepared to watch what I thought was going to be some really sick, disturbing movie…everyone was grossed out because? I mean some of that stuff really did happen in Amazon tribes, and other than like three animals being killed I didn’t see anything that was so gory or so disturbing I went wow or oh my god. I personally don’t see what the big deal was.
The real footage is that of actual animals being killed. This is a major part of what makes it a "video nasty." The violence towards the humans is absolutely fake.
Does anybody have any insight about the movie? This is the original Deodato classic that was banned all over the world. Deodato hinmself faced several criminal charges for making the movie. Anyway, any gore hound or better yet horror fan, will appreciate it for what it is. A cult classic. Even though the movie itself wasn't all that, you gotta appreciate the controversy it brought forth.
This film gets alot of bad reviews because people look at it at face value. I can understand that it is very graphic and hard hitting however to dismiss it as poor is unjust. I think this is a true classic of horror, a great story and premise and decently dispatched for the budget it had. It was very original concept to film as found footage and this film directly influenced modern classics such as ''The Blair Witch Project'' and ''Cloverfield''. I love the sense of drama and hype behind the film and it feels like a real ''occasion'' every time you watch it, which is what all great horror films should be like. I truely think this is an under rated classic, shocks and scares from start to finish. 5/5
People freak too much out about a killing of a turtle..but tend to overlook the true meaning in this film.. which is explained in the last line of this film. 5/5 without question.
very disturbing and gory. may be a little to gory and sadistic. but on the other side i tough it was great.i love the style and psychology of it. definitely not for everyone.
I love gore movies, but only because I know thay are not real. But this, is too much for me. While reading the comments, I thought it wouldn't be that bad, but I was so wrong.

That turtle and that little anteater was killed for the sake of this film. I find it terribly disturbing as the turtle was still alive even after it was cruelly decapitated.

If you 'enjoy' this kind of stuff I reccomend Aftermath, Irreversible, Mordum, Murder Set Pieces, and Flower of Flesh and Blood. All gorehound flicks that will leave you disturbed and shivering. I still cant watch the animal parts of this film, too far.
A total catastrophe. I'm a gore fan but this gore was just ugly and useless. The movie was boring. Terrible acting. ETC. If you're looking to see a good gory flick, check out Peter Jackson's Dead Alive. Don't even bother with this pile of crap.
But people must realize when they watch this that is WAS in 1985, a time where animals didn't have the respect, and care, as they do today. NO WAY would any sane person do a movie like this today, no way.
I'm all for animal rights, but you just have to realize how they looked at things back then.

Not only would I'd say 95% of film is staged or faked but the 4 scumbags got what they deserved after raping and staging and terrorizing these people so professor KISS MY ASS !! In hiring 4 losers to do your production. Such a bunch of .. losers not even worth a watch

the turtle scene was enough to make me cry , how can we harm and or kill animals or any life for that matter for screen entertainment !
doesnt matter what day and age is it , something in the soul must tell you all that is wrong , im very very surprised if this film isnt banned , nobody i know has seen it , and in my opinion i wish i hadnt , its just a film about the western world taking over another nation like it always has done , power !! always seems to fall in the wrong hands
i wont be watching this again by any means and will be spreading the word that this without a doubt should be avoided NOT worth a watch
Ya thats some kind of horror film.What the lack in acting ability they made up in blood and gore.All I can say is,it just proves some human beings are more animal than actual animals
