Not my kind of film - but worth watching. This is most definitely NOT an avant garde film, as there's nothing really progressive in it. Rather I'd describe it as a postmodernist art-house film: a bit too 'clever' for it's own good, and just trying way too hard to be 'great'. Having said that, I don't regret watching it! I just came to this post to let you know that I love your "crazy films" list. I found it after reading your review on "The Fountain". I can really relate to you. You're a smart person and I admire that. I'm truly intrigued.
Don't listen to tersse, it's a funny film, meant to be artzy fartzy, the people who are commenting here don't know very much about film, do they? !! ooh noo!!
"Brand Upon the Brain" may not be your cup of tea, but Maddin is a brilliant filmmaker. He doesn't make broadly commercial films, that's for sure, but his imagination and p.o.v. are intelligent, intense and memorable.
