Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive former ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side - a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.
To be honest it kept my attention, although I was expecting something better at the end of this movie. It was very long and drawn out for a movie with a very simple storyline.
I couldn't wait to see this movie after seeing the trailer. Aronofsky and Natalie Portman! And I wasn't disappointed. Superb acting and direction. Great story. Some mates were avoiding this movie because they thought it was just a ballet movie. LOL.., shame on them! Another surprise was Mila Kunis. I remember her from 'That '70s Show' and she was absolutely fabulous in this movie. Kunis and Portman were quite convincing as ballet dancers. All that training paid off. Great choreography. But the highlight of this movie was Portman herself. Her finest 2 hours. She deserves her Oscar. I always thought it was only a matter of time when I first saw her in Besson's 'Leon'. 10/10.
I absolutely loved it!! Great acting, directing, storyline! It was intense and a very good representation of what stresses society has put on young women these days and what could possibly happen to one under that kind of stress and pressure. I love ballet and this was no exception, beautiful work. Swan Lake has always been one of my favorites and this performance was phenomenal, i was literally in tears.. Absolutely fantastic film!!
Worth every award it gets and more!
Starts off a little slow but gradually builds to something that can only be described as outstanding!
It's dirty, sinister and brutally violent yet beautiful, melancholic and utterly tragic.

Not so special for me, maybe not my kinda thriller movie. Acting was great, story was also good, but had some fiction in it which i didn't like. I will give 8/10.
An intense film that boards the subject of obsession for perfection, as in any art form could happen. Outstanding dark and sinister film, maybe director Aronofsky's best.
Well i thought this movie was brilliant, the act, the story and how it keept your attention til the end, usually i stand this kind of movies about 20 min tops or feel sick after it but this AMAZED me.

got to agree with taz i thought it was boring untill it got about 80 mins in then picked up a bit but was just weird im not sure how everyones making it out to be really good when it wasnt
Obviously not the best of the year. Just because something is hyped up doesn't mean its good. I liked the film and it was a good one time watch but best? Definitely not. Even if you compare this with other similar films with these type of endings - Inception beats this without doubt.
Boring, I can't understand how it's even nominated for an award. Then again, most movies I see nominated at the Golden Globes don't deserve it. Well acted, but I didn't enjoy the story at all. 1.5/5
Very interesting take on Swan Lake. Natalie Portman is a shoe-in for an Oscar. Vincent Cassel was perfect as the manipulative, demanding artistic director. 5/5
I can honestly say out of all the movies I saw this year, I saw nothing like this. This isn't my favorite in any way or way down my list what I mean its such a brilliant way how this wierd story centers around this magnificent Ballet Swan Lake ut got a bit tweeked but for a thriller this was brilliant.
Plainly This movie for me is soo wierd and yet I'd Hand the Oscar over for best Actress to Natalie Best Supporting to Mila and would totally put the movie in the Best Picture (It would probably make i there)
