Watch Bedford: The Town They Left Behind Description :
Like the young men in many small American towns during and after the Great Depression, the boys of Bedford, Virginia, joined their local National Guard unit. They were paid one dollar for every weekend training session - a lot of money in 1941 - and they were given a snazzy uniform to wear that pleased the ladies. Not a bad deal. What they couldn't have foreseen was that Japan would attack Pearl Harbor and draw the United States - and their little Guard unit - into a war that everyone hoped would end all wars.
I had relitives on both the Deutsch and Amerikan sides of WWII, some lived, some died..some I met, some I never got the chance to. This story should be a great watch for those who want to learn a lot "straight from the horses mouth" from the Amerikans and the UK.
Sad to think that this is only getting a 4.3 rating and that some think this is a "slow mover". Truth can be just that, a little slow at times, but in the end, every story is one worth listening to and learning from. Wish that these days would come back. It would teach a LOT of people a harsh reality lesson in todays day and age in a lot of countries.
I give this a 10/10 for the Veterans stories alone (For myself in either Germany or Amerika). Nothing better than sitting around any day or night listening to a Veteran tell the stories from the Good ol´Days! Sad to think, this era is coming to a fast and abrupt end.
Hats off to all the Veterans of any War. You have all sacrificed so much for any and all countries no matter what your job, what era or what war.
